Graduate Studies in Natural Resources Science and Management

About the Program

The University of Minnesota graduate program in Natural Resources Science and Management is offered through the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), in conjunction with the Graduate School. CFANS has been accredited continuously by the Society of American Foresters, the Society of Wood Science and Technology, and the Wildlife Society since these organizations first offered accreditation.

The Natural Resources Science and Management (NRSM) Graduate Program includes graduate course offerings from the Departments of Forest Resources; Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering; and Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology.

Currently, 112 students are enrolled within the NRSM Graduate Program, out of 767 graduate students and 1801 undergraduates across the CFANS College. The student body represents a wide variety of educational backgrounds, geographic origins, and career objectives. This, coupled with international involvement by the faculty, provides a global perspective to the program.

Two graduate degree options are offered in NRSM, the Master of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy. Depending on your interests and needs, your graduate program can be highly specialized or have a broad focus. You will work with your adviser and a faculty committee to develop a graduate program of study that matches your interests and meets the requirements for your graduate degree. Graduate programs are often interdisciplinary and include courses from across the University. A wide range of natural resource subject matter is available.
