Handbook: Typical Yearly Academic Work and Associated Forms: MS (Plan A)

Upon arrival

  • Meet with your adviser.
  • If you were not able to attend orientation, meet with the graduate studies assistant (105 Green Hall).
  • Go to your departmental office to obtain mailbox, office, keys, employment forms, and graduate assistant information.
  • Register for classes.

1st year

  • Form your examination committee.
  • Prepare your Degree Program form (.pdf) after the second semester or completion of 10 credits. Also, complete the NRSM Statement of Education and Career Goals form (.pdf) (This is your statement of your goals and your adviser’s evaluation of the degree program). Turn these documents in to the NRSM Program Office (105 Green Hall).

2nd year

  • Complete course requirements, including the department seminar (FR 8107, FW 8200, or BP 8306).
  • Petition any changes to degree program. (.pdf)
  • Write thesis.
  • If necessary, apply for Advanced Master’s Status. (.pdf)
  • Request graduation packet from Graduate School. Packet contains:
    • Reviewers Report Master’s Degree (also called Thesis Reviewers Report Form)
    • Application for Degree
    • Graduation instructions
    • Commencement Checklist
    • Commencement Attendance Approval Form
    • Preparation of thesis/project instructions
  • Submit application for degree to OTR, indicating date of graduation.
  • Submit the Reviewers Report to 316 Johnston Hall (the Final Exam form will be issued to you at that time)
  • Schedule the final oral exam with your adviser, committee members, and Graduate School.
  • Take final oral exam.
  • Deliver Examination Report Form, thesis, and all other necessary materials to the Graduate School, 316 Johnston Hall.
  • Meet with DGS or Graduate Studies assistant for exit interview.
